Introduction

On behalf of the Head Coach of the EDZA West U18 AAA Reds, Abby Clarke, we are very excited to announce our upcoming Development Camp for the team’s upcoming 2021-2022 season. We are EDZA West’s only U18 AAA Female Hockey program and are looking forward to building on the team’s past season performance and to continue to offer an exciting, challenging and elite-athlete focused program this coming season.

ID Camp

The U18 AAA Reds would like to invite all Female U18 aged players (born 2004-2006) to their ID Camp. The intent of this Development Camp is to determine interest and calibre of players for the 2021-2022 season. Attendance at this camp is not mandatory for consideration this season, however, it does allow the coaches the opportunity to view all the players in advance of our August selection camp (details on the selection camp will be sent out and posted to various websites and social media in late June 2021 or before).

The following are the two (2) Development camp ice times/dates/locations:

Date Times Location

May 8th, 2021 (Sat) 2 – 3:30pm Willie O’Ree Place (Sheet 1)
May 29th, 2021 (Sat) 2 – 3:15pm Willie O’Ree Place (Sheet 1)

Registration

Registration for these sessions is open to all female players born in 2004/2005/2006. In accordance with Hockey New Brunswick Elite Hockey Commission Operations Manual (dated June 2020), female players born in 2007 (2nd year U15) may try out for U18 AAA Female hockey.

To further facilitate a streamlined registration process, we have set up our registration online. Please go to the following link: https://form.jotform.com/211095104600238 to complete your registration and submit electronically. Due to COVID-19, we will only be accepting e-transfers for the payment of the development camp fee, which can be made to edzawest.reds@gmail.com (please use security word REDS) and must be paid in advance. Last day to register is May 5th 2021. A player will only be considered fully registered when we receive their online registration and e-transfer.

Specific details and information will be sent out to all players/parents by email prior to the first session as well as important information related to mandatory COVID-19 safety measures at the specific City of Fredericton arenas. These rules will be strictly enforced and are in place for the safety of everyone.

As a result of ongoing COVID-19 safety measures currently in place with the City of Fredericton, we are only able to have upto 35 players on the ice which will be on a “first-registered, first-served” basis. All those who register after the initial 35 spots are filled will be placed on a waiting list should there be any cancellations. We will only notify those on the waiting list should a spot come available.

Cost

The registration cost for this camp, which includes 2 icetimes, is $25 per player. The fee remains the same if a player is only able to attend one session. Any player who is unable to attend due to Provincial Health Measures in their community may be reimbursed their fee. As well, if the sessions need to be cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, fees will be reimbursed. Otherwise, all registration fees are non-refundable.

Further information

We plan on conducting multiple ice sessions during the months of June through July (we will be putting out a call for these session dates/times/location/cost once we have confirmed ice times) with the selection camp occuring in August (dates TBA). As well, we will be announcing soon our summer conditioning program as well. Lots of great news to come shortly!

Story published by Bruce Hallihan – The Daily Gleaner (March 18th, 2021)

The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a stop-and-start Maritime Major U18 Female Hockey League season.
The four Nova Scotia teams played 18 regular season games while the four New Brunswick teams played 10 or 12. The closure of the Atlantic bubble meant no inter-provincial play all season.

But both provinces are in the process of determining champions. The four New Brunswick semifinals will be
played this weekend. “It’s definitely been a roller-coaster season for the coaching staff and the kids,” said Abby Clarke, head coach of the 6-5-1 Reds, who’ll be looking to pull a mild upset over the 7-4-1 Fundy Nationals.

“I’m very pleased and proud of my kids for how they’ve managed to keep their spirits high despite the unusual year,” Clarke said. "When I told them we’d be able to play again, I think there was a moment of disbelief because it had been two and a half months. “They were like ‘Wow, OK, what does this mean?’ Then trying to kick it into high gear again in such a short amount of time.” The Reds host Game 1 at 3 p.m. Friday at the Lady Beaverbrook Rink in Fredericton before the series is decided

in Saint John: Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at TD Station or, if necessary, Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the Lord Beaverbrook Rink.

“They have a great team,” Clarke said. “We beat them, tied them and lost to them, so it’s going to be an exciting series.” Rookie forward Alyssa Xu led the Nationals with 17 points, including 13 goals, in just 10 games. Regan LeBlanc (4-10-14) and Julia Downey (9-4-13) were other scoring threats.
Fundy netminder Claire Noftell was stellar with a 1.63 goals against average and 5-2-1 record.
The Reds’ goaltending chores were split between Ky-Lynn Paul and rookie Eve Trites. “We have two very good goaltenders who can stand up to the challenge,” Clarke said. “Our defensive corps has improved
immensely, with Nicole Ferguson, Lauren Waters, Taylor Gregan and Julia Green leading the way. And Carolyne Roy and Faith Knox have come leaps and bounds. They’ve been huge for us on penalty kill.”
Maritza Labrie led the Reds with 15 points, including eight goals, in eight games. Audrey Clavette (8-3-11), Elizabeth McIntosh (5-5-10) and Ella Lawrence (3-7-10) averaged close to a point per game. Allie Christensen and Hannah Harvey chipped in with nine points apiece. “We have a lot of depth through our forwards,” Clarke said. “Every line contributes something.” Moncton’s EDZA East Rockets (9-3-0) are overwhelming
favourites to beat the Bathurst-based Northern Lightning (0-10-0) in the other semifinal.

All four teams skated o" the rust last weekend. The Rockets beat Fundy 2-1 before losing the rematch 3-2.
The Reds swept the Lightning, winning 8-2 and 7-3. “You can practice all you want, but until you get back into game play it’s a whole other beast,” Clarke said. “Quite honestly, I was impressed with the girls and how quickly they got back into the groove.” A best-of-three provincial final will be played March 26 to
28. The two semifinal losers will play a consolation series for bronze. “Moncton is definitely the team to beat, but it’s going to be interesting since every team has had such a long stretch of not playing games,” Clarke said
